‘Switchblade’ Jay White Wins IWGP Intercontinental Title at Kobe World Hall

We’re a little more than three months away from the two-day celebration of Wrestle Kingdom 14 at the Tokyo Dome, and we have a brand new IWGP Intercontinental Champion!

In a hard-fought battle at Kobe World Hall on Saturday, Sept. 21 the “Switchblade” Jay White defeated Los Ingobernables de Japon leader to bring the prestigious title back to Bullet Club for the first time in over three years – since Kenny Omega lost the belt to Michael Elgin at Dominion 2016, in fact.

White earned his title opportunity by defeating Naito on the final night of block competition in this year’s G1 Climax tournament, ultimately boxing him out of the G1 Finals.

During the Road to Destruction tour that unfolded over the past month, White and Naito faced each other in tag team matches on 11 different occasions, with Los Ingobernables winning all but two of their altercations. When it came time for the final fight, a whole tour spent teaming with Gedo came to fruition when interference from the turncoat manager allowed White to hit the Bladerunner to win the title for the very first time.

This big victory makes Jay White just the second man in history to win the IWGP Heavyweight Championship, the IWGP United States Championship, and now the IWGP Intercontinental Championship.
